Geographical issue
Northern Africa is made up of Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, and the Western Sahara. It has the Atlas Mountains surrounding it at the bottom half and on top is covered by the Mediterranean Sea. In between the Atlas Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, there are many famous landmarks. The Nile Delta is not only popular, but important for Egypt’s economy. Northern Africa also has many rivers, mountains, deltas, and lakes.
The most important part of Egypt is the Nile Delta. The Nile Delta has given Egypt its culture, food, and power. It has let farmers grow their food there for centuries, because of the rich soil it gives. Even today, this river has played a big role for Egypt. In 1970, the Aswan Dam was built on the Nile. This has caused a geographic issue for the people because it has created both positive and negative effects.
The Aswan Dam gives electricity to all of Egypt. Farmers can now farm their lands all year. However, the dam has blocked the flow of silt, which is farmers’ natural fertilizer. Now, farmers must buy expensive fertilizers with chemicals in them. These chemicals then flow into the river and cause the wildlife to die. Plus, the Mediterranean salty waters are going farther into the Nile, which is not good for the river.
